Re: Who says American newsreaders are ignorant!
Having lived around the world I can assure you ignorance and stupidity are universal. I know I have them both...

I have lived in America, Fort Worth, Texas to be more precise for nearly the last 10 years, but did spend 35 yrs following West Ham home and away from 1970 on.

I live and work among many many American's who are, believe it or not, educated, well traveled, understand the difference between the UK and Ireland, (although no need why they would focus on the difference of those countries as opposed say Brazil and Honduras, or two other disparate countries you could name).

The percentages are the same everywhere, as stated by Irons of Canada, stupidity, ignorance etc etc, but I will avail you of one fact. The percentage of American's that have passports is the same as the percentage of British people who have them. I know as I checked Govt. web sites a couple of years ago as I was curious to this often repeated statistic.

Re: Who says American newsreaders are ignorant!
Having lot lived among a lot of Canadians, British people and Americans, I can confirm that they are all quite ignorant about things they don't care about and have been told they don't need to care about.

There are also thick people everywhere in approximately the same percentages.

(Thick and ignorant are not the same thing.)

To honestly believe that the opposite is true is ignorant because it means you have bought into what has essentially become nationalistic cultural propaganda (on either/all sides.) Just like America does not have a monopoly on freedom (like it often teaches itself) nor does it have a monopoly on (or a majority of) stupid people (like other nations often like to teach about it.)

Having lived among you both, you and a lot more same than different, sorry if that offends.

Re: Who says American newsreaders are ignorant!
90% of Americans (sic) don't have a passport because they have no need of one.

Despite what "well travelled", and, dare I say it, "well educated" Europeans (OK, British) thinking that they should, the main reason most Europeans (OK, British) have passports is they need them to holiday in places worth holidaying in.

In the USA, all similar locations are available in-country, so thy have no need for such documents as they are not passing any ports.

They mostly are though, all as thick as pigshit.

Re: Who says American newsreaders are ignorant!
The USA is so big and varied that they don't thgink too far away. Their international news covers Canada and Mexico with a bit of middle east news thrown in for good measure.

I'm sure I read that 90% of Americans don't even have a passport...

Why anyone is surprised those talking heads on telly are pig shit ignorant on all subjects they profess to be experts in obviously haven't listened to Stephen Fry make debate while away from an auto-cue.

A few years ago me and Mrs VH were sat in a cafe within spitting distance of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We got chatting to an American couple and they asked us what the name of 'that bridge' was. I couldn't believe my ears.

I showed this link to a couple of Americans. They both asked what was so funny about it, just the TV news.

Quote near the end.....

'I'm not sure I follow your logic'.

Its a wonder he didnt hit him. Worryingly, a lot of Yanks are this stupid and ignorant of anything outside their border.

Very reminiscent of how life must have been 600 years ago.

Khalil Gibran was a Lebanese poet and mystic from, I think, late 19th early 20th century. His best known work is 'the prophet' available at any decent occult or mystical bookstore in English. Probably also your nearest public library.
Quotes probably available online.

The stuff you spout I can't believe you've never heard of him. I would have thought you had his entire catalogue

Irelamd is close to home for Brits but it's just another part of the world for the yanks. It's not really much different from knowing whether it's finalnd or Sweden that retains its own currency, or whether Mongolia does.

He's certainly not well informed but it's not entirely unexpected either.

Mr Stomper who is Khalil Gibran?

Yes you are correct, there are many differences in being spiritual and being stupid.
